Gas-Fired 5MW Electrical Co-Generation System

This completed Gas-Fired Co-Generation project increased manufacturing capacity and reduced operating costs, by reducing the amount of electricity required from the power grid. The five-megawatt system produces electricity and steam, from a natural gas-fired turbine and boiler set.

JNE was responsible for delivering innovative construction engineering solutions for the balance of plant, project management services throughout all phases, commissioning services, and construction support including building specifications and fabrication equipment installation, on a variety of capital and plant improvement initiatives.

Turbo Generator Project

This 11.5 MW cogeneration system that we have provided to our client produces electricity from steam and reduces the requirement for power from external sources. The result has been a significant reduction of operating costs and utilizing re-use energy, which would have otherwise wasted.

JNE partnered closely with our client to understand their engineering and project execution requirements, including an aggressive implementation timeline. JNE provided project coordination services during the construction and commissioning phases, and the delivery of all process and construction engineering, which included all civil, structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical engineering for this project.

JNE has continued to provide innovative solutions by delivering process and construction engineering, project management and commissioning services, on a variety of capital and plant improvement initiatives.

Boiler Control System Upgrade

Initially, these boilers were under the control of a Bailey Infi-90 DCS, performing both the burner management and the combustion control. The scope of work for this control system included an upgrade of Boiler No.1, Boiler No.2, and Boiler No.3. The Plant Master/Boiler Common was replaced by a PLC based system consisting of redundant servers, safety PLCs and Point IO remote racks.

The deliverables of this project were oil and natural gas valve trains compliance review (CSA B149.03; NFPA 85; NFPA 86),functional design specification, electrical I/O schematics,ID drawings for oil/natural gas valve trains, safety PLC programming and testing, control system panel construction, TSSA field approval and letter of compliance (engineer review of the burner management system), factory acceptance test, field installation of the new control system, and site acceptance test.
